Custom Lighting

After two years of research and development working with electrical and metal specialists, Art Glass by Gina recently launched two lines of custom lighting fixtures. The Elliptical Pendant© and Wave Sconce Lights© released to rave reviews:

Are just a few of the comments received from those viewing the prototype fixtures featured during Gina's holiday 2007 release event at the award winning, Ken Wright Cellars Winery in Carlton, Oregon.

The Elliptical Pendant© lights appear to be hanging in thin air. Two large rectangular elliptically shaped arches of glass embrace one-another through the genius of a custom solid brass interior structure. The design of this unique structure (patent pending) accommodates a variety of kilnformed glass designs, sizes, and thicknesses. It allows for independent arm adjustments permitting maximum flexibility while hanging each hand-made panel.

Pendant lights come in large and medium lengths suitable for over a dining table or large end table or to showcase a section of a room. Mini pendants are suitable for over a bar or kitchen island.

The Wave Wall Sconce© lights are versatile in that they can be mounted left or right both horizontally and vertically. Hence, they can be placed on either side of a fireplace or above a vanity. They have a unique wave shape and are attached to the custom fixture with decorative hardware. The Wave Sconce© can be made as a single 10" X 8" light or can be doubled to 16" or greater.

In addition to the custom glass light fixtures that Gina designs and fabricates, she also creates striking in-wall lighting and custom light shades for selected manufactured fixtures.

Art Glass by Gina light fixtures and custom glass shades are priced according to degree of difficulty of design, glass selections and thickness, and the techniques and materials used to achieve the perfect desired effect.

Interior Installations

The contribution of glass into our living spaces does much more than just add color. Because of its unique qualities, glass adds light to a drab corner or hallway, dimension to a flat plane, energy to an even palatte, and texture to the eye and to the touch. It can be a very subtle influence to a space or a bold statement, not just asking for your attention but demanding it!

Aside from lighting, Gina's glass interior installations include hand-made custom tiles, wall-mounted sculptural designs, room dividers and windows. Gina's designs take into account the style, era and architectural detail of a home or commercial space. She sees the addition of glass as a complement to other design elements that coexist in or around its space.

Gina's work is greatly influenced and inspired by textiles, fabric and patterns. Oftentimes she will see a rug or scarf, a piece of fabric or a picture of something in a magazine and it will set her creative juices flowing. The intent is not to copy the design but find a likeness to it that translates well to the medium of glass.

Functional Ware

Functional vessels, plates, serving dishes and other wares are a cornerstone to working in glass. It is the perfect medium for displaying food - appetizers, entres, salads and desserts. ANY dish, regardless of how it tastes, looks simply delectable when served on a fabulous glass platter!

In a featured artist show outside of Chicago, Gina decided to do a series of tableware that doubled as vases. Many of these were two-sided, allowing for center table placement. The response was overwhelming! These very functional art pieces are first built as separate artistic expressions. Often-times copper, brass, or aluminum wire or mesh, mica, opaque enamel, foils, or other materials and mediums (even buttons) are incorporated into the making of these pieces. Each side is fired several times, taking 14-48 hours per firing. Each side is then slumped into or over a custom hand-made fiber-formed mold. Careful attention to placement, size and angle of each mold must be taken as in the end, the two pieces must "fit" together to form an open vessel.

Once the two sides are adhered additional embellishment may take the form of fiber, beads, wire, feathers, mirrors, virtually anything that adds further interest and texture to the final design. Easels or stands often become part of the artistic expression and have included some rather out of the ordinary 'finds'.
